Rich and more of the family of horses.
That's Lizzy Lu on the Rich's left. She's 4. Biscuit is on his right. She's a 3 year old.
Some have called Rich a "horse whisperer." Rich has a "gift" that translates into a second sense, that of connecting with the inner nature of horses, recognizing the unique characteristics of each individual, and fostering those qualities as he works with each one in a training program.
Rich is a professional farrier. For those who may not be familiar with this term, it means a horse shoer. He has worked in this field for over 30 years, accumulating a wealth of knowledge about horses and people. He should write a book!!
Rich has years of experience running ranches. Now that he and Jan own and manage their own farm, he invests considerable time in operating the farm organically with Jan.
He's a man of many talents! In the slower months of winter he even designs wood art from old cedar fence posts and old barn wood (picture frames)! What a guy!
Winter 2006 - Rich and Jan with a few of the young horses they have. The grey is Teddy Bear. He's a 4- year old gelding. The dark buckskin behind Jan is Biscuit, and she's three. The farm is a great place to raise a few of these wonderful animals. Rich rides them both along with a few of the "tried and true" we have also. We are looking to sell a few of these to some good folks who will appreciate the qualities of each and which Rich has nurtured through his training techniques.
Jan grows a large garden, a passion enjoyed through the organic approach involving attention to soil and the regional characteristics of the area. Jan loves the challenges of caring for the land, and sharing the harvest with interested folks and customers!
Jan also teaches at the University of Great Falls. Courses include General Botany and General Ecology, the very topics that Jan practices as she gardens and farms the fields. (More below. . .)
